What Do Social Media Managers Do?

First off, I want to acknowledge my lack of emails lately! I’ve been very busy doing digital marketing for my new clients— which I am obviously grateful for. The beginning process requires undivided attention, which I always will give to my clients! But, I’m happy to finally be writing about digital marketing again.

Moving on.

In this email, we will be going over the question, what does a social media manager do?

First, a SMM falls into the realm of digital marketing. A digital marketer can be a SMM, but not all digital marketers are SMM. This is a specific position in a very broad industry.

A social media manager is a professional that is responsible for overseeing and executing a business or organizations social media strategy. A freelance digital marketer providing SMM would most likely be the person wearing many hats in this role.

Here are a few things that we do.

Strategic planning: SMM develop tailored strategies that reflect your goals and are meant to help your business achieve them.

Platform professional: Because not all platforms are identical, it’s the role of your SMM to help your brand understand which platforms are worth your time. There’s a lot that goes into figuring this out. I’ll spare the boring details and teach you a term instead: target audience.

Crisis management: We all go through it, and as a brand— it’s best to have someone knowledgeable and prepared help you navigate those situations. Including knowing the social climate before posting certain things.

I could go on and on about the complex roles of a SMM, but I’ll save more for next time. Stay up to date with me on Instagram @ceresocial
