The disadvantages of digital marketing

Knowing the cons will help you navigate the pros

This weeks topic is a little different from what I’ve normally been talking about throughout the course of this newsletter, which is social media updates. From this point forward, you can expect so much more than just social updates… because there’s so much to talk about when it comes to marketing. So much to learn. So much to even complain about 🫣

Obviously I am someone that enjoys marketing and social media. This means that I am the perfect person to ”shed light” (complain) about all the downsides that it has so that you don’t walk into this without making informed decisions.

A lot of my audience are small markers and small businesses. That’s who I write for— people that need to be pointed in the right direction. And I would be steering you wrong if I didn’t shine a light on the downside of digital marketing, especially if you are a small business and you don’t have the means to hire someone in this industry.

So let’s just dive right in.

Despite digital marketing having plenty of advantage over traditional marketing, digital marketing requires brands to stay in tune with the times and up-to-date on new technology. If you aren’t up to date with the latest and greatest, you won’t catch anyone’s eye.

My advice for this? Take mental notes on everything you’re seeing on social media. Think about how you can apply that to your marketing, if it fits seamlessly.

Another disadvantage in digital marketing is how crowded and noisy the spaces are online. Meaning that even if you are targeting the right people, you still have to maintain a uniqueness to your work. All while putting out quality work— consistent work. On top of all the other…. work.

My advice for maintaining uniqueness? Authenticity. Consistency. Quality over quantity. Stay true to your image. Create social media calendars that work best for you. Engage with your community.
